Finance, the study of the behavior of businesses, private individuals, and organizations in raising, allocating and using monetary and other assets and resources over certain time periods, is a very encompassing field. Covering both public and private domains, finance also includes the general control and management of monetary assets and other assets and resources. Aside from these, finance also deals with the management of and the search for solutions to risks that come with the process.
One subfield of finance is investment. Investment refers to the process of buying (and selling) securities and other monetary assets in the various markets, such as the monetary and capital markets. It also involves the buying and selling of liquid assets, such as real estate, gold, properties, and collectibles. Whether or not each of these assets is valuable is determined through a process known as valuation.
Financial investments, which refer to the investments made in the financial markets, are shares, equity investments, and bonds. Each of these financial investments can be in the domestic currency, or in a foreign currency. Financial investments are bought in the hope that they will provide future income or cash flows, known to investors as capital gains. Intermediaries, such as insurance companies, banks, investment clubs, mutual funds, pension funds, and collective investment groups are where investments can be indirectly made.
To help in their investing transactions, investors use tools to choose what assets or resources to invest in. These tools are usually charts and graphs of the past value and behavior of certain assets, such as currencies in the foreign exchange market, or forex.
In the forex market, investors use charts that include current details of specific currencies, the history of each of these currencies, and the growth and decline of the whole investment market. These charts can be accessed on finance websites, or through software programs that are connected and synced on the Internet.
